Spruce Budworm monitoring & management subject of Maine Policy Review brief
University of Maine master’s student Allison Foster (MS in Forest Resources) along with School of Forestry faculty Dr. Adam Daigneault, Dr. Parinaz Rahimzadeh-Bajgiran, and Dr. Aaron Weiskittel have published a brief in the Maine Policy Review from the results of a survey of Maine’s largest forestland owners and managers. The survey focused on participants’ perspectives on spruce budworm monitoring and detection approaches, management activities, remote sensing technology, and forest health challenges. Survey results indicate a need for clear policies and collaborations between forest organizations in the face of a growing spruce budworm outbreak in Maine’s spruce-fir forests.
